Space Pixels is an interactive light installation that captures the nostalgia of 1980s computer games. The work is made of mirrored stainless steel and intelligent pixels that create a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of light. As visitors approach the installation, microphones pick up transient sound and use it to influence the patterns and intensity of the light. This creates a dynamic and constantly changing experience that evokes the simple animation techniques used in classic games like Space Invaders and Asteroids. The rainbow-colored pixel explosions are a nod to the vibrant color palettes of the era, and add to the overall sense of nostalgia and whimsy. In addition to its nostalgic aesthetic, Space Pixels also explores new methods for creating volumetric displays that creates a three-dimensional effect that adds depth and movement to the light patterns.
